The short version. Scanning is free. If you buy a license, you can use Reco on your own Macs to recover your own files, for as long as you like. Please don’t share your license key or use Reco on drives you have no right to read. Data recovery can never be guaranteed, so keep backups.
1. This agreement
Reco is made and sold by [Your legal name] (“we”, “us”). These terms are an agreement between you and us about the Reco app for Mac, its updates, and any license key you buy. By installing or using Reco you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Reco, and if you bought a license, see our Refund Policy.
2. Your license
Reco is licensed to you, not sold. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use Reco on Macs you own or control.
- Free use. Without a license you may download Reco, scan drives and see what it finds, including how intact each file looks.
- Paid license. A license key unlocks previews and recovering files. It’s a one-time purchase, with no subscription. You may use it on [the number of Macs stated at checkout; if none is stated, the Macs you personally own and use].
- Updates. Your license includes the updates we release for [the major version you bought / Reco 1.x]. [Describe any paid upgrade policy here.]
3. Early testing
Reco is currently in an early testing phase. Early builds may contain bugs, features may change or be removed, and early-bird prices may not last. We work hard to keep every build safe for your drives (Reco never writes to the drive it scans), but please treat early builds as pre-release software.
4. What you agree not to do
- Share, publish, sell or resell your license key, or use a key you didn’t get from us or an authorised seller.
- Remove or work around the license check, or copy, modify, decompile or reverse-engineer Reco, except where the law gives you that right regardless of this agreement.
- Rent, lend or sublicense Reco, or offer it as a service to others without our written permission.
- Use Reco on a drive, card or disk image you don’t own and don’t have permission to access, or in any way that breaks the law or someone else’s privacy.
5. Data recovery has limits
Whether a deleted file can be recovered depends on things outside our control, such as whether its space was overwritten, whether an SSD has already erased it, and the physical condition of the drive. We do not guarantee that Reco will find or recover any particular file, or that recovered files will be complete or usable. Please read the Data-recovery disclaimer; it forms part of these terms.
6. Updates and online features
Reco checks an update feed to tell you when a new version is available, and contacts our license service when you activate a license. What these connections send is described in our Privacy Policy. We may release updates that fix problems, change features or keep Reco working with new versions of macOS.
7. Third-party components
Reco includes open-source components, each under its own license. They are listed, with their licenses, in the Acknowledgements. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licenses.
8. No warranty
To the fullest extent the law allows, Reco is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t promise that Reco will be error-free or work without interruption, or that it will recover your data.
9. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss of data, loss of profits, or any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of Reco or your inability to use it, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for your Reco license.
Some countries don’t allow these exclusions or limits. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that can’t be excluded by contract, and where the law gives you more protection, the law wins.
10. Ending this agreement
You can stop using Reco at any time by deleting it. If you break these terms, your license ends and you must stop using Reco. If you receive a refund, the license key you were refunded for stops working. Sections 5, 8, 9 and 12 continue to apply after the agreement ends.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when Reco gains new features. We’ll change the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we’ll say so in the app or on this site. Changes don’t apply to a purchase you’ve already made in a way that reduces what you paid for.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [your country, and state or province if relevant], without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of [place], unless the consumer law of the country you live in gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.
