Why Reco is free
Most people open a recovery app on a bad day: the wedding photos, the thesis, the only video of someone. Getting them back is a second chance, and Reco’s developer didn’t want to put a price on it.
Other people are waiting on a different kind of recovery: a newborn in an incubator, a parent between chemotherapy doses, someone who needs dialysis three times a week and can’t pay for it. So Reco is free, for everyone, with nothing held back. The ask is this: if Reco helped you recover, help someone else recover.
This isn’t about politics, religion or nationality. It’s one person helping another.
Give to the Mersal Foundation
Any amount, once, by card, bank or PayPal. A fair guide: what would getting your files back have been worth to you?
Opens Mersal’s page on Every.org, the nonprofit that takes the payment. Your gift goes to Mersal. Reco is never part of it and receives nothing.
Who Mersal is
The Mersal Foundation for Charity and Development is a non-profit in Egypt that works in health. It provides the medical care the public system doesn’t cover, to people who can’t afford it, through its own centres and a network of doctors and hospitals it contracts with. On its Every.org page it calls itself a parallel health shield: the last line of defence when one medical crisis is enough to push a family into poverty.
Three of its principles are the reason Reco points here:
- No discrimination. Mersal is open to every patient, whatever their religion, nationality, colour or language. Egyptian, Sudanese, Syrian or Palestinian, Muslim or Christian: it treats whoever is in pain.
- Privacy as a point of honour. Mersal doesn’t publish its patients’ faces or put their cases in the media to raise money. Reco is built on the same instinct, which is why your files never leave your Mac.
- Transparency. Mersal publishes where its money comes from and how it’s spent, medical and administrative costs included.
What Mersal does
- Cancer treatment. The Mersal Oncology Center opened in July 2016. It gives examinations, follow-up and chemotherapy, and pays for surgery, radiotherapy and transplants at specialised centres.
- Newborn intensive care. Mersal runs an incubator unit and is equipping a full centre: 21 intensive-care units, 2 isolation units and 10 ventilators.
- A children’s hospital. Under construction, for children whose families can’t pay, with incubators, intensive care, outpatient clinics and a bone-marrow transplant unit.
- Monthly treatment. More than 5,000 patients get their regular medication through Mersal every month.
- Emergencies. A hotline that works all day, every day, and gets urgent care started without waiting for paperwork.
- Dialysis. A centre opened in 2025, with 8 beds and growing to 12.
- A place to stay. A guest house for patients who travel to Cairo for treatment, which has hosted more than 1,400 of them.
- Hearing. Cochlear implants and hearing aids for children, including those too old for state support.
- Mental health. A free clinic for patients and their families.
These are Mersal’s own descriptions, taken from mersal-ngo.org and its Every.org page in October 2026. Go there for current figures and for the campaigns running now.
How giving works
- Choose an amount above. Mersal’s donation form opens on Every.org in a new tab, with the amount filled in. You can change it there.
- Pay by card, bank transfer, PayPal or one of the other methods Every.org offers.
- Every.org emails your receipt and passes the gift on to Mersal.
About the tip. Every.org is a nonprofit and charges no platform fee, so its form suggests an optional tip to Every.org itself, added on top of your gift. You can change it or set it to zero.
Tax. Mersal’s Every.org page says the foundation is hosted by Myriad USA, which makes gifts made there tax-deductible in the United States. Elsewhere, check your own country’s rules.
In Egypt? You can give to Mersal directly, including zakat and sadaqa, at mersal-ngo.org or through its hotline, 19340.
The fine print
- Reco is independent. It isn’t affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the Mersal Foundation or Every.org. Its developer simply admires Mersal’s work.
- Reco gets nothing. No commission, no referral fee, no share. The money never passes through us.
- We don’t know who gives. Every.org doesn’t tell us who donated or how much, and we don’t ask. See the privacy policy.
- Giving unlocks nothing. Reco is the same app whether you give or not. There’s no supporter version and no reminder that follows you around.
Questions about Reco: [email protected]. Questions about a donation or a receipt go to Every.org, and questions about Mersal’s work go to Mersal.
